Overview
The Dana Spicer Dana 44 Differential Drive Pinion Oil Deflector, part number 2005565, is a front-position deflector for Dana 44 and Ultimate 44 axles. It fits the 2007 to 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK, in 2-door and 4-door body styles.
Its genuine Spicer design matches original equipment standards, so it replaces the factory part. Rubicon models with reverse rotation use this part as well.
Key features
- Genuine Spicer light vehicle axle part, made to original equipment standards
- Fits Dana 44 or Ultimate 44 front or rear axles
- Rubicon models with reverse rotation are noted by the manufacturer
- Inner diameter 1.260 inches, outside diameter 2.125 inches
How the pinion deflector works
The pinion deflector sits in front of the pinion seal and throws gear oil away from it as the gears turn. Without a sound deflector, oil can splash straight onto the seal and find its way past the lip. That is why a worn or bent deflector is a common cause of seal leaks around the front of the axle.
The deflector is a simple part, but its position matters. When the pinion seal or bearings are serviced, the deflector should be checked for cracks and a flush fit against the housing. Use a fresh seal and clean the mating surfaces so the deflector seats correctly. Shops often replace it during seal work.
- Check for cracks along the edge
- Confirm the deflector sits flush against the housing
- Replace it during pinion seal service
