Overview
The Trail Gear 140194-1-KIT is a weld-on rear axle bearing pocket made from 4340 chromoly. It fits 1979–1995 Toyota Pickup and 1984–1995 4Runner rear axles.
A complete rear axle uses a matched pair, since two pockets are needed to build one rear axle housing. The pockets fit most Toyota Pickup and 4Runner axles made from 1979 to 1995. A disc brake kit is required with them. Because the pockets are welded into the housing, installation is a welding job, so plan the welding and brake work together.
Key features
- Weld-on design for a Toyota rear axle housing
- Made from 4340 chromoly steel
- Two pockets are needed for each rear axle housing
- Disc brake kit required
Welding and brake planning
Weld-on bearing pockets make the housing work a welding job, so the quality of the welds matters as much as the parts. Clean the mating surfaces, confirm alignment with the axle tube, and let the housing cool gradually after welding to limit distortion. Test fit before the final weld wherever the design allows.
Because a disc brake kit is required with these pockets, the brake and bearing work are best planned together. Confirm the brake lines, caliper clearance and rotor mounting before welding, since changes at the housing can affect how the brake components line up.
- Pockets are sold in pairs for each rear axle housing
- Check the brake kit requirements before cutting or welding
- Inspect welds for cracks after the first trail runs

Vehicle fitment
Trail Gear lists these bearing pockets for the 1979–1995 Toyota Pickup (Base, Base Turbo, DLX, DLX Turbo, SR5, SR5 Turbo) and the 1984–1995 Toyota 4Runner (DLX, SR5).
Toyota models outside those years, such as the Tacoma, should not be assumed to fit.
Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
The pockets are weld-on parts, welded into the axle housing rather than bolted in. A disc brake kit is required, which affects the brake side of the build.
What’s included
One bearing pocket per part. Two are needed for each rear axle housing.
Not included: A disc brake kit, which is required with these pockets.
