Windshield hinge mounting basics

A windshield hinge mount carries the weight of the lights on the hinge bolts, so the hardware and the hinge itself take the load. Check the hinge for cracks or play before adding any weight. Lights mounted here also move with the windshield when it is opened, so confirm that the wiring and the lights clear the frame through the full swing.

Wiper clearance is a common issue. Lights that sit in the wiper sweep can scratch the glass or stop the wipers from parking correctly. Route the wiring along the frame and keep it away from the defroster vents and the washer lines.

Check the fit with the windshield open and closed before tightening everything fully. Recheck the hardware after rough trail use, and look at the rubber liners for wear.

  • Inspect the hinge for cracks or play
  • Confirm wiper clearance with the lights mounted
  • Check the windshield swing before final tightening

Questions & Answers

Do these lower A-pillar mounts fit a Jeep JK?

Yes. The brackets are designed for the lower A-pillar area of the Jeep JK, which covers the 2007 to 2018 model years, and they use a windshield hinge mount.

Which lights fit these brackets?

They are designed for the Rigid Industries Dually or Dually D2 LED lights. Other compact off-road lights may fit because the light mounting hole is 7/16 inch.

Do they include protection for the paint?

Yes. Rubber liners are included to protect the Jeep's paint where the brackets sit, and the brackets are sold in pairs for two lights.

How often should light mounts be checked?

Check them after the first few trail runs and then periodically. Look for loose hardware, rubbing on the paint where the liners sit, and cracking in the bracket welds or powder coat.
