Description

Overview

The Poison Spyder 14-04-053 is a comp cut Crusher Corner set with an integrated 3 inch DeFender flare, made entirely of 3/16 inch plate steel. The comp corner design allows clearance for larger tires.

The corners are CNC laser cut from high strength 3/16 inch plate steel and carefully roll-formed to the body lines. The bolt holes are countersunk, and stainless steel flat head cap screws give a smooth surface that slides over rocks.

At the front edge, the corners are precisely cut to integrate with Poison Spyder Rocker Knockers or Ricochet Rockers. The integrated flare is part of the corner itself, so no separate flare needs to be fitted.

Tire clearance and fitment

A comp cut corner is shaped to open up space around the wheel and tire, which matters once the tires get larger than stock. Tire clearance depends on more than the corner, so check steering stops, control arms, the inner fender and the shock or spring positions at full steering lock and full suspension travel. Rubbing often shows up first at the tire edge that meets the corner, so test the fit with the wheels mounted before the corners are fastened.

Because the corner is one piece with its flare, a tire size change means the corner needs to be checked again, not just the wheel. Stiffer or taller suspension can change the clearance, and a larger tire can raise the risk of contact with the body during articulation. Plan any trimming before drilling, and keep bolt holes and cut lines measured from the body rather than from memory.

  • Test wheel clearance at full steering lock
  • Check suspension travel against the corner
  • Mark cut lines before drilling
  • Recheck clearance after changing tire size

Questions & Answers

Why choose a comp cut corner?

The comp corner shape allows clearance for larger tires. The corners are made from 3/16 inch plate steel with an integrated 3 inch DeFender flare.

Does this set need a separate flare?

No. The 3 inch DeFender flare is integrated into the corner, which is made entirely of 3/16 inch plate steel.

What hardware is supplied?

Flat head stainless steel hardware, with countersunk bolt holes, which Poison Spyder says gives a smooth surface to slide over rocks.

Do comp cut corners change how the tires fit?

Yes, the comp cut shape gives tires more room at the wheel opening, so tire size affects how well they fit. Test the fit with the wheels mounted and the suspension at full travel before fastening the corners permanently.
