Overview
The G2 Chrysler 9.25-inch aluminum cover with load bolts (part number 40-2028-1AL) is a rear differential cover for Chrysler 9.25-inch rear axles only. It is cast from lightweight aluminum and left in a raw finish.

Why bearing caps matter
The bearing caps hold the differential carrier in the housing and take the side load from the ring gear as the axle turns under power. A cover that adds support does not replace good carrier bolts, but it keeps the caps from working as the housing flexes on rough ground.
Fluid service is easier with a magnetic drain plug and dipstick, because metal from gear wear collects on the magnet where it can be seen. Clean the magnet at every fluid change and note the amount of debris. Heavy shavings, a burnt smell or a gritty feel on the magnet are signs that the gears or bearings need inspection before the axle sees more load.
