Overview
The Poison Spyder 13-04-073 is a set of standard crusher corners in bare steel. Crusher corners are rear corner armor that protect the body corners of a Jeep from rock and trail damage. Poison Spyder says these come pre-configured with its most popular features, including a wheel opening design, provisions for flush-mounted LED taillights sold separately, and the factory fuel filler opening.
The corners are laser cut from high strength 3/16-inch plate steel and roll-formed to the body lines of the Jeep. All of the bolt holes are countersunk, and the supplied stainless steel flat head cap screws leave a smooth, flat surface that slides over rocks. The flush-mount LED taillight is an upgrade for safety, durability and a clean look.
The corners can be set up with the company’s 3-inch weld-on DeFender flares. The DeFender flares are fabricated entirely from 3/16-inch plate and use a tubeless design, without the thinner .120 wall tubing outer rail found on traditional tube fenders. The outer edge is formed from 3/16-inch plate with a full underside return for strength. The 3-inch flares match the factory flare tire coverage, which can help meet legal flare requirements in areas that require them.
The corners include the factory location gas filler hole, so the filler is in the rear under the tail light. The product photo is for illustration only and shows corners with the filler on the side of the body.

Setting up rear corner protection
Rear corners take hits that the body was never built to absorb. Rocks, stumps and ledges tend to strike the rear quarter just behind the wheel, so armor in this area keeps the sheet metal from folding and makes it easier to slide over obstacles. Steel of this thickness holds its shape under repeated contact, though it can still dent under a heavy direct blow.
Think about the rest of the rear end before fitting corners. Tire size, bumper style and the rear body mounts all influence where the corners sit and whether the tire will rub at full compression. Route the taillight wiring and fuel filler line before cutting anything, since the taillight area and the filler opening both sit close to the corner edge.
- Paint or powder coat bare steel before the first install
- Test-fit the corners and check tire clearance at full articulation
- Check weld points on any flare every few trail trips
- Touch up scratches to prevent surface rust
- Keep the stainless screws snug but not overtightened
