Dana 60 and 70 driveline notes
Dana 60 and Dana 70 axles are heavy-duty housings, and their pinion yokes carry significant torque from the driveshaft. Because the axle types differ in pinion size and housing design, the yoke should be matched to the specific axle and not chosen by housing name alone. A yoke with the correct spline and bore keeps the pinion shaft and U-joint working together without slop.
U-bolt style mounting places clamping force on the pinion shaft, so the U-bolts, nuts and yoke bore should be inspected for wear whenever the yoke is replaced. Clean the mating surfaces before assembly, and confirm the yoke clears the axle housing and brake components at full suspension travel. Forged steel is a common choice for these loads, but worn U-joints and loose clamps still cause vibration and damage.
