Overview
The Auburn Gear 545019 is an ECTED Max selectable locker for Dana 44 axles with 30 splines and gears 3.92 and up. It combines two traction enhancing differentials in one: a full time limited slip plus a full locking differential, selected with an in-vehicle switch.
Key features
- Full time limited slip operation
- Full locking mode engaged from inside the vehicle
- Switches from limited slip to spool at moderate speeds
- Smooth street operation, per Auburn Gear
Using a selectable locker
A selectable locker gives you two modes. Limited slip keeps both wheels working during normal driving, while full lock sends equal power to both wheels for steep, slow obstacles where one wheel has no grip. The mode you pick should match speed and surface, since a locked axle does not turn at different speeds on pavement.
Wiring and switch placement are part of the setup, not an afterthought. A loose connector or chafed harness can leave the locker stuck in one mode, so route the wires away from heat and moving parts. Inspect the harness each time the vehicle goes off-road, and keep the switch and its connector sealed from water and mud.
- Use full lock at low speed only
- Switch back to limited slip for tight parking lot maneuvers
- Check the switch harness after each trail trip
- Plan a fluid service after deep water crossings
