Overview
The Alloy USA 15002.18 is a hub service kit for the manual locking hub PN 15001.18. It is for owners who need to service a manual hub rather than replace the whole assembly, and it is described only for use with that hub part number.
Manual locking hubs from Alloy USA have a body of impact-resistant nodular iron and a corrosion-resistant die cast aluminum cap. Alloy USA calls them some of the toughest hubs available and says its customers have found them durable.
Key features
- Hub service kit for manual locking hub PN 15001.18
- Hub body of impact-resistant nodular iron
- Die cast aluminum cap that resists corrosion
- Manual locking, so the hub is engaged by hand
- A locked hub gives four-wheel drive, and an unlocked hub can improve fuel economy in two-wheel drive compared with automatic hubs.
Manual hub maintenance
A manual locking hub is engaged by hand, so its internal parts see regular use whenever the truck switches between two-wheel and four-wheel drive. Service the hub on a schedule, clean out old grease and grit, and inspect the locking ring and spring for wear. Keep the cap seated so dirt and water stay out of the hub body.
Nodular iron bodies resist impact, but the seals and grease still need attention. Replace worn seals before water reaches the bearings, and use the correct grease for the hub. When reassembling, check that the hub locks and unlocks smoothly before driving. A hub that sticks or drags can stress the driveline, so fix it promptly.
- Clean and regrease the hub at service
- Inspect the locking ring and spring
- Test lock and unlock before driving
