Description

Overview

The Alloy USA 21110 is a chromoly Dana 35 rear axle shaft for the passenger side, with 30 splines, for C-clip axles in 1990-1997 applications that use an aftermarket 30 spline differential.

Heat treatment followed by induction hardening gives each shaft up to twice the tensile strength of a stock shaft. The line is made from 1541H or 4140 steel. The 30 splines have to agree with the gear set inside the axle. It is for C-clip axles, so compare the 29.120 overall length with the shaft being replaced.

Key features

  • Chromoly replacement shaft for the Dana 35 rear axle
  • 30 spline
  • Passenger side
  • Fits 90-97 C-clip axles
  • Requires an aftermarket 30 spline differential
  • Alloy USA says its shafts are heat treated and induction hardened
  • Bearings, seals and studs are not included
  • Axle shaft location: Passenger side, rear right

Fitting a C-clip Dana 35 shaft

C-clip axles hold each shaft with a clip at the inner end rather than a retainer plate, so the removal sequence differs from a retainer-style axle. Support the housing, remove the clip, and slide the shaft out carefully to avoid damaging the seal lip. Inspect the bearing and clip groove for wear, because a worn groove can let the shaft walk out under load.

Passenger side shafts see the same torque as the driver side, so the wear pattern on the old shaft tells you a lot. Look for twisting near the splines and discoloration from heat. Apply fresh gear oil to the axle once the install is complete, and check for leaks after the first few drives. Keeping the seal and clip new reduces the chance of a second teardown.

  • Replace the C-clip with the shaft
  • Inspect the clip groove for wear
  • Check the seal lip before reassembly
  • Use fresh gear oil after installation

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Alloy USA 21110 fit?

It is for 90-97 C-clip axles. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering, and check that your Dana 35 axle uses C-clips.

Does the Alloy USA 21110 need a special differential?

Yes. The 21110 requires an aftermarket 30 spline differential. It is a 30 spline Dana 35 rear shaft for the passenger side, so match the spline count before you order.

Does the Alloy USA 21110 include bearings and studs?

No. Bearings, seals and studs are not included with the 21110 shaft. Plan to replace the hub seals and bearings during the job if they show wear.

Should I replace the axle seal when I fit a new shaft?

Yes, it is a good time to do so. The seal sits where the shaft passes through the housing, and a seal that is hard or cracked will leak once the shaft is reinstalled. Replacing it while the shaft is out avoids a second job.
