Description

Overview

The Falcon Sport 06-04-21-400-002 is a shock absorber system for the 2009–2018 Ram 1500. It is designed to improve stability and control and to give a better ride on and off road. It is a compact option for trucks driven every day, and the Volume Optimized Damping valve is designed to reduce bottoming out at full compression.

The system uses Zone Rate Tuning to turn the factory linear-rate spring into three performance zones. An internal negative-rate spring offsets the factory preload in the extension zone, and the progressive microcellular bump stop retunes the spring in the compression zone. It is fitted for 2009–2010 and 2011–2018 Ram 1500 trucks and works with the factory spring rate.

Key features

  • Compact monotube shock absorbers
  • Compact body for daily driven trucks
  • Progressive microcellular bump stop for compression zone tuning
  • Volume Optimized Damping valve for low-speed control
  • Zone Rate Tuning for three distinct performance zones
  • Internal negative-rate spring to reduce top-out clunk
  • Volume Optimized Damping with a digressive linear valve
  • Progressive microcellular bump stop included

Daily driving and wear

A shock system for a daily-driven truck is judged by how it feels on ordinary roads. Good damping keeps the body settled over dips and reduces the float that follows a bump. Because the front and rear work together, a worn part at either end can make the whole truck feel loose or noisy.

Inspection is straightforward. Look for oil on the shock bodies, worn mounting bushings, and clunks at full extension. Replace the bump stop when it is cracked or compressed, since it is part of how the spring behaves in the compression zone. Keep the shocks matched front to rear so the handling stays balanced.

  • Look for oil on the shock bodies.
  • Check mounting bushings for wear.
  • Inspect the bump stop for cracks or compression.

Specifications

Brand TeraFlex
Part number TER06-04-21-400-002
Shock type Monotube
Fitment Direct fit

Vehicle fitment

It fits the 2009–2010 Dodge Ram 1500 in the Laramie, SLT, ST, Sport, TRX and TRX4 trims, and the 2011–2018 Ram 1500 across its trims.

The system is for Ram 1500 trucks in the listed years only. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.

Installation notes

The compression zone relies on the progressive microcellular bump stop, which is supplied with the system and retunes the spring rate in that zone. The settings are fixed, so the system performs the same way once installed.

Questions & Answers

Is this the same as the tow and haul Falcon system?

No. This is the Falcon Sport shock absorber system, which TeraFlex describes as compact and affordable for daily driven trucks. The three-setting tow and haul rear shocks belong to the separate 06-04-32-400-002 system.

Does the system reduce top-out clunk?

Yes. The internal negative-rate spring offsets the factory spring preload in the extension zone, which reduces top-out clunk and shock stress at full extension.

Does it fit a 2012 Ram 1500?

Yes. It fits the 2011–2018 Ram 1500, which includes 2012, across the trims covered. The 2009–2010 trucks are covered as well, so the full range is 2009 to 2018.

Can the bump stop be left out of the installation?

No. The compression zone depends on the bump stop being fitted, since it retunes the spring rate in that range. Leaving it out changes how the system works, so install it as supplied.

What signs point to worn shocks?

Oil on the shock body, a bouncy ride after a bump, and clunks at full extension are common signs. Uneven tire wear or a body that keeps rocking after a turn can also point to a worn shock.
