Description

Overview

The Skyjacker heavy-duty swedged tie rod tube TR300 (SKYTR300) is a 1.25 inch D.O.M. tie rod tube that fits the Jeep Cherokee XJ, Comanche, Grand Cherokee ZJ and WJ, and the Wrangler JK and LJ. It uses the factory tie rod ends.

The tube is built to pair with Skyjacker’s Rock Ready lifts and works as a heavy-duty replacement for the stock tube.

The tube keeps the factory tie rod ends, so the rest of the steering stays as it is while the stronger tube replaces the original.

Key features

  • 1.25 inch D.O.M. tube
  • Swedged heavy-duty design
  • Uses factory tie rod ends
  • Made to complement Rock Ready lifts

Choosing and checking tie rods

A tie rod connects the steering gear to the steering knuckles, so its job is to carry steering effort from the gear to each front wheel. On a lifted Jeep the angles at the ends of the tube change, and the tube takes more load when the tires are larger or the steering is used hard off road. A stronger tube helps keep steering geometry stable under those conditions, but the rest of the linkage still has to be sound.

When replacing the tube, inspect the tie rod ends, drag link and steering stabilizer at the same time. Worn ends create play that a new tube cannot correct, and a bent tube usually means the vehicle has taken a hard hit that should be checked elsewhere. After installation, check toe alignment and recheck all clamp and jam nut torque after the first few drives.

  • Look for play at the ball joints and tie rod ends
  • Check the steering stabilizer and drag link for wear
  • Re-check clamp bolts after the first trail runs
