Overview
The Rubicon Express Gas Tank Skid Plate, part number REA1024 (R/EREA1024), is a black powder coated fuel tank skid plate for the 2020–2022 Jeep Gladiator (JT).
This fuel tank plate is one of several skid plates for the Gladiator, which also cover the engine oil pan, transmission and transfer case. Each is CNC laser cut from 3/16-inch steel and mounts up tight to the drivetrain to help maintain ground clearance. The plates form a modular system, so they can be added one at a time. The black powder coat helps protect the steel from rust between trips, and the plate installs without cutting or drilling.

Gladiator undercarriage care
The Gladiator’s fuel tank sits low between the axles, where it can meet rocks and ruts on a trail. A skid plate takes those impacts across a larger area, which helps keep the tank and its fittings from being struck directly. Protection is most useful when the plate is kept clean and free of trapped mud.
Black powder coat helps resist rust on exposed steel, but scratches expose bare metal to moisture and road salt. Check the finish after trail use and touch up chips with a suitable coating. Inspect the plate’s fasteners for looseness, since vibration over rough ground can back them out over time.
