Description

Overview

The Dana Spicer Ultimate Dana 60 front axle assembly, part 10005777, is a 5.38 ratio front axle for a direct bolt-in fit on the 2007–2017 Jeep Wrangler (JK).

It is a 10-inch Dana 60 axle built in the United States, with a factory electric selectable locker and upgrades aimed at off-road use.

The axle has 4340 chromoly 35-spline axle shafts, SPL-70 U-joints and 14-inch dual piston disc brakes, with a plug and play ABS system. Aftermarket wheels and drive shaft modifications are required.

Key features

  • U.S.-made 10-inch Dana 60 front axle
  • 5.38 ring and pinion ratio
  • Factory electric selectable locker
  • 4340 chromoly 35-spline axle shafts
  • SPL-70 U-joints and 1350 pinion yoke
  • Serviceable wheel bearings and 35-spline Warn locking hubs
  • 14-inch dual piston disc brakes with plug and play ABS
  • 8 on 6.5-inch wheel bolt pattern

Driveline and wheel setup

Swapping to a Dana 60 front axle changes more than the axle itself. The heavier housing changes the load on the steering, the front driveline and the tires, so the complete front end should be looked at as one system. The shafts, U-joints and pinion yoke all carry torque through the front driveline, which is why the driveshaft is part of the planning.

Before installing, measure the existing wheel and tire setup against the 8 on 6.5-inch pattern and the axle’s brake size, since the brakes must clear the wheel. Look for wear on the old U-joints, bearings and axle seals at the same time, and replace worn parts while the axle is out. After the first few trail runs, re-check the axle and driveline bolts and the fluid level.

  • Confirm wheel offset and backspacing for clearance
  • Inspect the transfer case and driveshaft angles
  • Check the differential fluid level after installation
  • Replace worn U-joints while the driveline is apart

Questions & Answers

Will the Dana Spicer 10005777 fit a 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK?

Yes. It is a direct bolt-in fit for the 2007–2017 Jeep Wrangler (JK), which covers 2012 models. Confirm your year and model before ordering.

Does this axle need aftermarket wheels?

Yes. Aftermarket wheels are required with this axle, which uses an 8 on 6.5-inch wheel bolt pattern. Plan to fit wheels that match that pattern before installing the axle.

Does the driveshaft need changes?

Yes. Drive shaft modifications are required, and the axle uses a 1350 pinion yoke. Plan for that work before installing the axle in the vehicle.

Does the 5.38 ratio need a specific tire size?

Tire size changes the effective gearing, so a larger tire can make the 5.38 ratio feel lower and affect acceleration and fuel use. Confirm the tire size against the gearing and transfer case setup before installing the axle.

Should the electric locker be checked after installation?

Yes. Check that the factory electric selectable locker engages and releases through its switch and wiring before regular trail use. Listen for noise during turns after the first drive, and inspect the differential fluid for metal shavings.
