Bulb and pigtail condition
A side marker kit is only as reliable as its electrical connection. The bulb and pigtail carry current into the lamp, so a worn or corroded pigtail can dim the light or cause flicker even when the lens is new. Inspect the terminals for green residue and loose crimps before connecting anything.
Bulb base type should match the socket exactly. A bulb that fits loosely can vibrate, and vibration can break filaments over time. Seat the bulb fully, then check that the lens sits flush against the housing so the bulb is not pressed out of position.
Dielectric grease on the contacts helps slow corrosion on front and side lamps, which see water and road salt. Replace the pigtail if the insulation is cracked, and keep the wire routing clear of hot or moving parts.
