Overview
The Crown Automotive 4798120 is a front output yoke for the NP231 transfer case, with 26 splines and no slinger. It is made for a Spicer 1310 series u-joint with a 3.219 inch outside diameter.
The yoke fits the 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ, the 1996–2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ SE, and the 1997–2000 Dodge Dakota and 1998–2000 Dodge Durango. Owners of those vehicles should compare their year and trim before buying.
Key features
- Designed for the NP231 transfer case front output
- 26 splines
- No slinger on this design
- Uses a Spicer 1310 series u-joint with a 3.219 inch outside diameter
Driveline work checklist
A front output yoke carries driveshaft torque from the transfer case, so the yoke face, splines and seal area all see load. Before removing an old yoke, mark the driveshaft and yoke position so the new one lines up with the same phasing. Inspect the transfer case output seal for leaks, since a yoke change is a good time to replace it.
The u-joint must match the Spicer 1310 series design with a 3.219 inch outside diameter, so compare the cap diameter before ordering. Worn splines on the old yoke can also point to wear on the transfer case input. Tightening the yoke nut to the value in your service manual keeps the joint from walking loose.
- Mark driveshaft and yoke alignment before disassembly
- Inspect the output seal and replace it if leaking
- Compare u-joint cap size before ordering
- Check splines for wear on both yoke and driveshaft
