Key features

  • Heavy duty driveline kit
  • Creeper U-joint with added center material
  • Four install clips included
  • Zerk grease fitting included
  • Universal fit

Choosing a U-joint type

Joints in a driveline are chosen for the loads they will see. A joint with added material in the center section aims to handle higher torque than a standard part, which can matter for larger tires, heavier loads or aggressive low range use. Matching the joint to the way the vehicle is driven is the simplest way to plan a driveline build.

Whatever joint is chosen, the yoke, flange and clips should be inspected together. Mixing a stronger joint with worn yokes can leave the weakest point elsewhere in the driveline. Keep a record of when the joint was installed and greased so service intervals are easy to track.

  • Match the joint to the way you drive
  • Inspect yokes and flanges with the joint
  • Keep service dates for the driveline
  • Grease the joint after each installation

Questions & Answers

Will the Trail Gear 100131-1-KIT fit a 1986 Toyota 4Runner?

Yes. It fits the 1984–1995 Toyota 4Runner DLX and SR5 trims, which covers 1986. Confirm the trim before ordering, since the fit covers only those two trims.

How does this kit differ from the 100130-1-KIT?

This kit uses a Creeper U-joint with added material in the center section. The 100130-1-KIT uses a Matsuba U-joint instead.

Does the kit include a grease fitting?

Yes. It includes a Zerk grease fitting and four install clips, so the joint can be greased after the kit is installed.

Should the front driveline be serviced when a stronger joint is added?

Yes. Check the yokes, flanges and clips for wear, and confirm the driveline angles are reasonable. A stronger joint does not reduce the need for regular greasing and inspection, so keep the service routine in place after installation.
