Description

Overview

The TeraFlex heavy-duty tie rod end 4920202 (TER4920202) is a right-hand thread, large-taper tie rod end with a 7/8 inch x 18 TPI thread for the Jeep Wrangler TJ and LJ. It is supplied individually.

TeraFlex built its heavy-duty ends around a one-ton joint end, in a stock Jeep taper or a large one-ton taper (standard Dana 60). The large taper fits the bigger 60-type knuckles used in TeraFlex’s HD axle line.

Because TeraFlex also makes a stock-taper version and a left-hand thread version, the taper and the thread direction are the points to check before choosing this part.

Key features

  • One-ton joint end
  • Right-hand thread
  • Large taper
  • 7/8 inch x 18 TPI
  • Supplied individually

Signs of tie rod wear

A tie rod end that is worn often shows up as play in the steering, where the wheel moves before the front tires respond. Uneven or feathered tire wear and a steering wheel that wanders can also point to a worn end. These signs develop slowly, so routine inspection catches them before the joint fails.

Tie rod ends are usually replaced with the alignment checked afterward, and they are often serviced alongside ball joints and drag link ends. Inspect the boot for tears and grease leakage during each service, since dirt in the joint speeds wear. Replacing an end before it fails completely keeps the steering safe on the road.

  • Feel for play with the wheel turned
  • Watch for feathered tire wear
  • Inspect boots for tears at each service

Questions & Answers

What thread does the TeraFlex 4920202 have?

It has a right-hand thread, 7/8 inch x 18 TPI, with a large one-ton taper, supplied individually as a heavy-duty tie rod end.

Does the 4920202 fit a stock Dana 30 knuckle?

No. The large taper fits larger 60-type knuckles; stock-taper ends fit Dana 30 knuckle holes. Check your knuckle taper before ordering.

Does it come as a pair?

No. It is supplied individually, so one tie rod end is included. Tie rods use one left-hand and one right-hand end, so check what your linkage needs.

How do I know a tie rod end is worn?

Look for play at the joint when the wheel is turned, uneven tire wear or a steering wheel that wanders. Replace a worn end promptly, then have the alignment checked before driving on the road.
