Overview
The TeraFlex heavy-duty tie rod end 4920221 (TER4920221) is a left-hand thread, small-taper tie rod end with a 7/8 inch x 18 TPI thread for the Jeep Wrangler TJ and LJ. It is supplied individually.
TeraFlex built its heavy-duty ends around a one-ton joint end. The stock Jeep taper, as on this part, fits Dana 30 knuckle holes.
Tie rods commonly pair a right-hand and a left-hand end, so this left-hand version is the counterpart to TeraFlex’s right-hand part.
The 7/8 inch x 18 TPI thread size is shared with the right-hand versions TeraFlex lists, so the thread direction and taper are what set the parts apart.

Tie rod replacement tips
A tie rod end is a wear part that takes steering load and absorbs trail shock. When one end fails, the wheel can toe in or out, which makes the vehicle wander and wears the tire unevenly. Replacing a worn end is usually quicker than rebuilding the linkage, but the new end has to match the taper, thread and knuckle type already on the vehicle.
Thread direction matters. A left-hand end must be installed on the side that threads into the tie rod sleeve in the correct way, so mark the position of the old end before removing it. Set the length to the same reference as the old end, then have toe checked. Tighten the jam nut once the toe is set and recheck it after the first few drives on rough ground.
Pair the new end with its counterpart on the other side when possible, so steering stays even and the joints wear at the same rate.
- Measure or mark the old end length before removal
- Check the boot and joint for play after install
- Set toe and recheck it after the first drives
- Inspect the knuckle and steering arm for wear
