Checking the windshield hinge
A-pillar mounts clamp or bolt to the windshield hinge, so the hinge’s condition decides how well the bracket holds. Check for cracks, rust or movement in the hinge before you fit anything, and confirm the hinge bolts are the right size and grade. A bracket that rocks at the hinge will transmit vibration to the light bar and wear the mounting points over time.
Steel brackets are finished with a powder coat, which protects the metal but chips on contact with trail debris. Touch up any chipped areas before rust starts, especially at drilled edges and bolt holes. Keep the bracket clear of the wiper arm and hood latch, and recheck the hinge and bracket bolts after the first few trail runs.
