Replacing an oil filler cap
The oil filler cap closes the opening where you add engine oil. A sealing gasket keeps dirt out and helps the crankcase hold steady pressure, so a cap that no longer seals can allow oil mist or smoke to escape at the opening. Because the cap comes off at every oil change, its threads and seal wear with use.
