Mounting a jerry can
A carrier shifts weight to the outside of the vehicle, so the can’s contents and the mounting points both matter. Fill cans to a safe level, since fuel expands in heat and a full can adds a lot of load to the mount. Keep the can upright, use the carrier’s strap or latch, and avoid placing it where exhaust heat or sharp edges can reach it.
Over time, carriers take road spray, mud and sun, so inspect the powdercoat for chips that could lead to rust at the welds. Tighten any bolts and straps after the first few drives, and check that the can cannot rattle loose. Fuel cans should also be stored away from the cabin and kept sealed for safety.
