Overview
The G2 JK CORE 44 front axle with a 4.56 ratio and an Auburn Ected differential is a front Dana 44 for 2007 and up Jeep Wrangler JK models. It carries standard axle caster, which G2 matches to lifts of 0 to 4 inches.
G2 built the housing to handle loads that would bend a stock Dana 30 or a Rubicon Dana 44, and it uses the new generation 8.8-inch Dana 44 gear design with a larger pinion shaft.
The 4.56 ratio pairs with an Auburn Ected differential. The housing handles loads that would bend a stock Dana 30 or Rubicon Dana 44, and it uses 35 spline Placer axle shafts.
Heavy-duty 1/4 inch laser cut brackets, 3 inch diameter, 5/16 inch DOM tubes and reinforcing ribs add strength to the housing. Heavy duty forged bearing caps, spanner nuts for backlash, and a heat-treated aluminum differential cover with cooling fins complete the carrier and cover. The Dana Spicer 5-7166X U-joints are heavy duty, and the housing uses metric Rubicon style carrier bearings.
Key features
- 4.56 gear ratio with an Auburn Ected differential
- Standard axle caster for 0-4 inch lifts
- USA made Placer Gold Chromalloy shafts, 1.5 inch, 35 spline
- Dana Spicer 5-7166X axle U-joints
- Massive forged inner C-ends and integrated skid plates
- Spanner nuts for backlash adjustment and heavy duty forged bearing caps
Gearing and tire size
A 4.56 ratio is a middle choice for a Wrangler that runs stock or near-stock tires. The ratio sets how hard the engine works at a given road speed, so the right gear depends on the tires, the transmission and how the vehicle is driven. Changing tire diameter shifts the effective ratio, which is why gearing is worth reviewing whenever the tires change.
Before installation, check the axle shafts, bearing caps and differential cover for damage and leaks, especially on a used housing. Set pinion depth and backlash on the new gears, and use the gear oil type the carrier calls for. A short road test after the install helps reveal noise or vibration early, when adjustments are still simple.
- Tire diameter changes the effective ratio
- Check cover, bearing caps and axle shafts for damage
- Set pinion depth and backlash on new gears
- Road test for noise after the first drive

Vehicle fitment
It is a front axle for 2007 and up Jeep Wrangler JK models, covering the 2007-2018 model years. It is not made for the rear position, the Wrangler JL or the Gladiator JT.
It is not made for the rear position or for the Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
Because the caster is standard, this axle suits lifts of 0 to 4 inches. Taller lifts need the extra-caster version instead.
What’s included
The axle includes the Auburn Ected differential and 35 spline Placer axle shafts.
