Overview
The G2 Axle and Gear Dana 30/44 JK Placer Gold front outer axle shaft, part number 197-2051-001, is a front stub axle for 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK models.
The Placer Gold series is built as a stronger option for Jeep JK owners. It is made in the U.S.A. from 4340 chromoly steel and uses a stronger forging with more material in critical areas.
Key features
- Forged from 4340 chromoly steel
- Uses the larger Rubicon 1350 Series 5-7166X U-joint
- Machined for full circle snap rings
- Made in the U.S.A.
- For use with 32 spline hubs
- Placer Gold Series build
Choosing an upgraded stub axle
A stub axle upgrade affects more than the shaft itself. The hub, u-joint and snap ring retention all need to match the new part. A heavier-duty forging is easier to justify on vehicles that see rock crawling, larger tires or frequent towing, where extra strength at the stub helps keep the shaft seated under load.
Check how the axle shaft is retained before you begin. Full circle snap rings need the groove and retainer to be clean and undamaged. Replace worn hub splines when the shaft is replaced, and keep an eye on grease in the u-joint, which is often the first place play develops on high-articulation trails.
- Confirm hub spline count before ordering
- Inspect u-joint bearings and caps
- Replace snap rings and seals with the shaft
