Description

Overview

The G2 96-2052-3-32 is a rear axle kit for 2007–2014 Jeep Wrangler (JK) models with a Dana 44 rear axle, including Rubicon models. The kit uses 32 spline shafts for a 32 spline differential.

G2 says its rear axle kits are made from high tensile alloy steels, forged and heat treated for maximum strength. Big spline options use a larger shaft diameter, which G2 says can withstand much higher torsional loads than the stock diameter.

The kit is dual drilled for 5-lug wheel patterns of 5 x 5 and 5 x 5.5. It includes wheel bearings, seals and screw in wheel studs, but it does not include a differential.

With either shaft option, the axle shafts are built so they are not the weakest point of the driveline. They are designed to carry the torque of larger tires and more power than the factory shafts were built for.

Key features

  • 32 spline shafts for use with a 32 spline differential
  • Dual drilled 5 x 5 and 5 x 5.5 wheel patterns
  • Forged and heat treated alloy steel
  • Big spline option available, per G2
  • Includes wheel bearings, seals and screw in wheel studs

Choosing shafts and tires

A rear axle shaft carries the full torque of the drive wheel, so a shaft upgrade matters most when the tires get larger or the engine makes more power. Shafts built for more load handle hard starts, off-camber climbs and locked differential turns with less risk of twisting or snapping. The shaft is only one link, though, and the carrier, pinion and wheel bearings must also suit the load.

Before buying, match the spline count to the differential already in the axle, and check the wheel pattern against your hubs. Rear axle work is easier when the old shafts, seals and bearings are inspected at the same time. Look for play in the wheel bearings, leaking seals and cracks near the shaft ends, and replace those parts while the axle is apart.

  • Check for a bent or twisted shaft after a hard landing
  • Inspect the differential pinion seal when the axle is open
  • Re-torque wheel studs after the first few drives

Vehicle fitment

It fits the 2007–2014 Jeep Wrangler (JK) with a Dana 44 rear axle, and it is a direct fit for factory Rubicon models.

Because the kit is a rear axle kit with 32 spline shafts, check the spline count and wheel pattern against your axle before ordering. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.

Installation notes

Because the differential is not included, the 32 spline shafts must match a 32 spline differential already in the axle. Have the kit fitted by a shop that works on Dana 44 rears.

What’s included

The kit includes wheel bearings, seals and screw in wheel studs.

Not included: the differential.

Questions & Answers

Does this kit fit a 2010 Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon?

Yes. It fits the 2007–2014 Jeep Wrangler (JK), so a 2010 model falls within those model years. It is a direct fit for factory Rubicon axles, so confirm the axle type before ordering.

Does the kit include a differential?

No. The kit includes wheel bearings, seals and screw in wheel studs, but the differential is not included. The shafts are made for a 32 spline differential.

What wheel patterns does it work with?

The kit is dual drilled for five lug 5 x 5 and 5 x 5.5 patterns. Check the pattern on your hub and wheels before ordering.

Should I replace the axle shafts when I upgrade tires?

Not always, but it is a good time to check them. Larger tires and more power put more torque through the shafts, so inspect the shafts, bearings and seals for wear or damage before installing bigger tires. Replace any part that shows play or cracks.
