Overview
The Dana Spicer Dana 44 Differential Carrier Bearing Kit, part 706032X, includes two carrier bearings and two races. Dana Spicer says these carrier bearings finish the parts needed for a Dana Spicer ring and pinion install.
The bearings are high quality O.E.M. bearings. The kit is for standard size axles only and should not be used on oversize axles.
Key features
- Two carrier bearings and two races
- High quality O.E.M. bearings
- Completes a Dana Spicer ring and pinion install
- Not for oversize axles
Installing carrier bearings
Carrier bearings support the differential case inside the housing and set the ring gear position. Before installing new bearings, clean the carrier bearing bores and check them for scoring, because a rough bore can make a new race sit crooked. Bearings should be pressed or driven in square and fully seated, using the correct tool rather than a hammer on the cage.
Ring and pinion work goes more smoothly when the carrier bearings, races and shims are kept in order and checked against the old parts. Lubricate the new bearings with gear oil before assembly, and confirm ring gear backlash and bearing preload before closing the cover. Replacing the carrier bearings during a ring and pinion job keeps the setup consistent.
- Clean and inspect bearing bores
- Press bearings in square
- Set backlash before closing the carrier
