Greasing and maintenance
A lubeable U-joint keeps its bearing cups running smoothly when grease reaches the needle bearings through the cross. Grease it after installation and at the intervals set by your driveline service schedule. Off-road, wet or dusty driving wears grease out faster, so inspect the seals and grease fittings more often in those conditions.
Greasing on its own does not fix a worn joint. If the cross or cups show play, the joint needs replacement. Clean the grease fittings before pumping, and stop once fresh grease appears at the seals to avoid pushing dirt in. Keep the driveline angles correct, since a joint working at an extreme angle wears faster even when it is well greased.
