Signs of spring divider wear

Squeaks over bumps or a suspension that feels tight can point to the same problem, since the divider is rubbing where it should be sliding.
When replacing dividers, remove the spring carefully and check its seats and perches for wear while the old parts are out. Clean the spring and the shock body before fitting the new inserts, and lubricate the contact points if the instructions call for it.
