Description

Overview

The Trail Gear 110002-1-KIT is a 4-inch IFS eliminator kit, a solid axle swap package. It fits 1986–1995 Toyota 4Runner DLX and SR5 models and Toyota Pickup Base, Base Turbo, DLX, SR5 and SR5 Turbo models. It removes the factory independent front suspension and replaces it with a solid front axle on leaf springs.

The package includes a diff armor plate, upper axle gusset, wheel bearing and knuckle service kits, items that other companies often charge extra for. The conversion also needs a rear matching lift, a donor solid front axle and a long spline drive shaft, none of which come with the kit.

Key features

  • 4-inch lift height
  • Front leaf springs
  • Hi-Steer kit and drop hanger
  • Greasable shackles
  • Steering stabilizer kit
  • Shock hoops and front shocks
  • Brake lines and brake rotors
  • Wheel spacers and bump stops
  • Diff armor plate

Solid axle conversion basics

A solid axle conversion replaces the independent front suspension with a single axle on leaf springs, which changes steering, braking and how the front end handles off-road. Expect a different ride with more articulation and more movement. The front axle, steering and brake systems all need careful inspection after the conversion.

Hi-Steer kits and steering stabilizers help control the axle on rough ground, but they work best when the steering components are in good condition. The drop hanger and greasable shackles reduce wear at the spring mounts, and the shackles should be serviced regularly. Plan the driveline work at the same time, since a long spline drive shaft is needed for the solid axle.

  • Grease shackles at regular service intervals
  • Inspect the steering stabilizer for play
  • Check driveline angles after the conversion
  • Confirm the donor axle is sound before installing

Questions & Answers

Does the 110002-1-KIT fit a 1990 Toyota 4Runner?

Yes, if it is a 1990 4Runner in the DLX or SR5 trim. The kit fits 1986–1995 4Runner models in those trims, so confirm the trim before ordering.

What else do I need for this kit?

You need a rear matching lift kit, a solid front axle from a 79–85 Pickup or 4Runner, and a long spline drive shaft. These parts are not included with the kit.

What lift height is this kit?

The kit is a 4-inch front lift with a lift height range of 3 to 4.99 inches. It uses front leaf springs and has no rear lift method, so a rear matching lift is needed.

What is the part number and UPC?

Trail Gear part number 110002-1-KIT with UPC 70000621372. Use the full number, including the -1-KIT suffix, when matching it to other Trail Gear IFS eliminator kits.

Is a steering stabilizer needed after a solid axle swap?

A steering stabilizer helps control the axle when it reacts to bumps and steering input, and it is often used with this kind of conversion. Inspect it for leaks and play at each service. Replacing worn joints keeps the steering steady and reduces wear on the Hi-Steer components.
