Before you install the kit
A combined hood and vent kit changes two parts at once, so plan the work as a single job. The hood sits on factory attachment points, which keeps alignment simple when the old hood is removed. Because the kit arrives in primer, paint should be finished before the new hood goes on. Lay the hood on a padded surface during painting to protect the edges and vent openings.
Look over the hinge bolts, latch and any hood stops before fitting, since these take the most wear on a JK. Keep the small fasteners from the removed vents in a labeled container. Aftermarket accessories that bolt to the hood are best added after the paint cures, so their mounting points are not scratched. Check the hood clearance to the grille and headlights once it is set, then tighten fasteners in steps.
