Description

Overview

The Rugged Ridge Hurricane Flat Fender Flare Set, part number 11640.09, is a set of four paintable pocket-style flares for the front and rear of the Jeep Wrangler JK, in two-door and four-door models. Its sculpted shape follows the lines of the JK body.

The design draws on the original Willys flat fender with a modern twist. Double bolt pockets give the flare its current look, and the flares add 2 inches of wheel clearance. They sit 1 inch wider than stock, which allows larger wheels and tires without an extreme lift.

The flares are made of injection-molded TPE material, which Rugged Ridge says is similar to the OE material. They are UV-protected for durability, and the kit includes stainless steel mounting hardware. Rugged Ridge backs the set with a 5-year limited warranty.

Key features

Clearance and wheel fit

Flat pocket flares are mainly about tire coverage. Adding wheel clearance means the tire sits closer to the flare edge, so the amount of tire showing and the way it moves under the body both change. A wider wheel with a different offset can still rub at full steering lock or over bumps, even with flares fitted.

The flare sits higher on the fender than a stock flare line, so the mounting area and the edge where the flare meets the fender liner should be checked before the wheels go on. Plan on checking the gap after the first drives, especially on the front where steering movement is greatest.

  • Measure clearance at full lock and at ride height
  • Check the liner and inner fender edges
  • Recheck after any suspension change

Questions & Answers

Does the Hurricane 11640.09 fit a 2010 Jeep Wrangler JK?

Yes. The flares are designed for the Jeep Wrangler JK generation, and a 2010 JK falls within that design. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Does the set need separate stainless hardware?

No. Stainless steel and black hardware is included with the set, so no separate fasteners are needed for the front and rear flares on the Wrangler.

How much clearance does it add?

The flares add 2 inches of wheel clearance and sit 1 inch wider than stock, which allows larger wheels and tires on the Wrangler.

Should the front and rear flares be fitted together?

Fitting all four flares together gives a consistent look and matching clearance front to rear. Check each flare's edge against the tire before the wheels are fully tightened, since front and rear wheel travel can differ.

Do larger tires still need a lift with these flares?

Not always. The flares add 2 inches of wheel clearance, which can cover some larger wheel and tire sizes at stock height. Heavier tires may still need a lift or a different offset to avoid rubbing on the body.
