Overview
The Rugged Ridge bearing for the slip yoke eliminator, part number 18676.74, is a replacement steel bearing for the Rugged Ridge mega short slip yoke eliminator (SYE) kit used with the NP231 transfer case found in the Jeep Wrangler. A slip yoke eliminator replaces the slip yoke on the transfer case output with a fixed yoke, and this bearing supports the shortened tail shaft in the Rugged Ridge kit.
It is a bolt-on, direct-fit replacement. Check the Wrangler year, model and trim against your vehicle before ordering.
Key features
- Replacement steel bearing
- Made for the Rugged Ridge mega short SYE kit
- For the NP231 transfer case
- Bolt-on application for direct installation into the kit.
- Replacement part for Jeep Wrangler transfer cases
Driveline vibration basics
A slip yoke eliminator changes how the driveline is held together behind the transfer case. Without a slip yoke, the shaft no longer slides in and out as the suspension moves, so joint angles and the load on the support bearing shift. Worn or loose support bearings often show up first as vibration or a faint whine at highway speed, so the bearing deserves a close look whenever the driveline is apart.
When planning the job, treat the driveline as one system. Driveshaft angles, the u-joints at each end and the transfer case output work together, and a change at one point usually affects the others. Replacing a worn joint during the same service is a common way to avoid a second teardown. Keep the fasteners clean and mark their positions so the assembly goes back the same way.
- Feel for play and rough turning by hand
- Look for grease leaks around the seal
- Check u-joints at the same service
- Recheck angles after any lift or suspension change

Installation notes
Driveline and axle parts rotate at speed, so professional installation is recommended. Keep the vehicle on jack stands while working under the transfer case, and torque the bolts to specification. Check clearance and joint angles through the full range of suspension travel, and re-check fasteners and fluid levels after the first few miles of driving. After any suspension or driveline change, listen for vibration and have it inspected if it appears.
What’s included
Rugged Ridge lists one replacement steel bearing. It does not include a tail shaft or an extension housing.
Not included: a new tail shaft, an extension housing, a yoke or the SYE kit itself.
