Matching shocks to lift and spring
Lift shocks are longer than stock units so they can control the axle at the new ride height. Leaf spring and coil spring vehicles load the shock differently, so a valved twin-tube design needs to suit the spring type it is installed on. When the lift changes, the shock’s extended and collapsed lengths must still allow full suspension travel without bottoming out or hanging the axle.
Other parts often replaced with lift shocks include bushings, upper and lower mounts, and brake lines that may need longer lines after a lift. Inspect the mounts for cracked eyes and worn bushings at each service, and tighten fasteners after the first few drives.
