Overview
The Rubicon Express RE1823 is a combo U-joint that connects a 1310 series driveshaft to a factory 1330 series pinion yoke. It is a lubeable crossover series joint and a universal fit joint, so yoke sizes decide whether it works.

Driveline joints and grease
A U-joint lets the driveshaft change angle as the axle moves on its suspension, and it carries torque through a small set of bearing caps. Every change in angle loads the cross and the caps, so joints are usually among the first driveline parts to wear. A lubeable joint has grease fittings so the bearings can be serviced rather than replaced. Keep the angles reasonable on lifted rigs, since steep angles speed wear and cause vibration.
When a joint is replaced, the yokes at both ends are commonly inspected for wear, and the straps or retainers should be checked for proper seating. Use a grease gun to push old grease out through the fitting until fresh grease shows at the seals. Inspect the joint for play, stiffness or squeaking, which can signal a worn bearing.
