Leaf spring lift considerations
Leaf spring suspensions rely on the spring pack’s arc and the position of the shackles to keep the axle located. A block lift shifts the axle down relative to the springs, which changes that geometry. Check the shackles, bushings and sway bar links for wear as part of any rear lift job, since they work harder at the new ride height.
Tapered blocks are designed to keep the driveshaft angle closer to its original path. Even so, the rest of the drivetrain should be inspected, including the U-joints and pinion angle, after the lift is complete. Keep the spring clamps tight and recheck them after the first trail runs.
