Identifying your gas tank type
Before fitting any filler hose on a YJ, confirm whether the tank is the factory plastic oversize 20 gallon unit or the steel 15 gallon unit. The two tanks have different filler neck positions and mounting points, so the hose route changes with each. Pulling the fuel door and looking at the neck material and tank shape is usually enough to tell them apart.
Once the tank is identified, route the hose with a gentle curve and no pinch points against the body or frame. Replacing the hose at the same time as the clamps keeps the joints reliable. Run the engine after installation and check the neck area for seepage.
