Overview
The MTS Company JWSU-3 is a replacement fuel sending unit for the 1986–1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (SJ). It is a direct fit and takes the place of the original unit in the fuel tank.
A fuel sending unit reports the fuel level to the gauge on the dash. The JWSU-3 is built to send that reading to the gauge, and it comes with a lock ring and an O-ring.

Float arms and the gauge circuit
The sending unit’s float arm and its resistance track set how the dash gauge reads, so a fault in either part can make a good tank appear empty or full. Before fitting a replacement, check that the arm moves freely and sits at the correct level for the tank. Many gauge problems come from a poor ground or corroded connector rather than the sender itself, so inspect those points too.
Plan the work for a low fuel level, which makes the tank lighter to handle and reduces spills. Clean the flange surface and inspect the tank interior for debris before reassembly. A fresh lock ring and O-ring, seated evenly, will help prevent leaks at the tank opening.
