Before you drill
Hood vents cut into the hood to let hot air escape from the engine bay, so the mounting position matters as much as the look. Before marking anything, lay the vents on the hood, check the spacing against the hood ribs and any clearance to the hood latch, and make sure the hood closes evenly once they are in place. Light pencil marks and a center punch help keep each hole where the template puts it.
Vents that are installed once are usually left alone for years. Look at the underside of the hood after the first few drives for any fastener that has worked loose, and keep the drill bits and template together so a second set of holes is never needed. Dry the polyurethane after washing so water does not sit in the seams around the mounts.
