Overview
The Crown Automotive J8126751 is a drum brake wheel cylinder rebuild kit for 10 inch brakes with 1 inch bore wheel cylinders. It fits the 1966–1971 Jeep CJ5, CJ6 and Commando. A rebuild kit renews a worn wheel cylinder instead of replacing the whole unit.
It is made for both the front and rear wheel cylinders on the matching brake size.
Key features
- Rebuild kit for drum brake wheel cylinders
- Made for 10 inch brakes
- Suits wheel cylinders with a 1 inch bore
- Usable on the front or the rear
- Direct fit for the listed CJ5, CJ6 and Commando years
Rebuilding a wheel cylinder
A rebuild replaces the seals and pistons inside the cylinder, and it is an option when the bore is still in good condition. Inspect the bore for pitting, scoring or rust first, because a rebuild cannot fix a damaged bore. Clean the bore with brake fluid rather than solvent, and lubricate the new seals with fresh brake fluid during assembly.
Work on a clean bench and keep the old parts in order, since spring and piston orientation matter. Check the boot fits snugly, and avoid mineral-based cleaners that can swell rubber seals. After reassembly, bleed the cylinder and check for leaks before road testing.
- Inspect the bore for pitting or rust before rebuilding
- Use brake fluid, not solvent, to clean the bore
- Bleed and check for leaks before road testing

Installation notes
Because the kit is made for 10 inch brakes with 1 inch bore cylinders, measure the bore of your existing wheel cylinder before starting. Check the parts in the kit against your cylinder before you begin.
