Before you install
Oil pan replacement starts with draining the engine oil and removing the fasteners around the pan flange. Clean the old gasket material from both the pan and the block, since any residue can keep a new seal from sitting flat. Inspect the flange for bends, because even a small distortion can produce a slow weep once the engine warms up.
Torque the bolts in the sequence the repair procedure gives and tighten them evenly, working across the pan rather than around one corner. On a Wrangler JK the pan sits low, so check the skid plate and any front crossmember clearance before lowering the vehicle. After the first few drives, look under the pan for seepage and recheck the bolts.
