Tuning an air helper
An air adjustable helper lets the driver change rear support without changing the coil spring. The ride can be set for an empty truck or for a heavier load, which reduces roll and sway when the rear is working hard. Air helpers add a little weight and need regular checks of the fittings and bag condition.
After installation, set the air pressure once the spring is seated, then drive and adjust in small steps until the rear feels settled. Inspect the bag for chafing and check the fittings for leaks with a soapy water test. Keep the bag clear of brake lines and the exhaust, and recheck after long trips with a load.
- Set pressure after the spring is seated
- Inspect the bag for chafing
- Check fittings for leaks
