Spring over axle setup notes
A spring over axle moves the axle position relative to the frame, which changes pinion angle, driveline angles and the way the axle wraps under torque. Those changes are why the install should be followed by a check of the driveshaft and the pinion angle. Leaf springs also carry the axle load through the shackles and hangers, so those mounts should be inspected before the new spring goes on.
A heavier leaf pack and a spring over layout can increase stress on the shackles, bushings and the frame mount points. Look for cracks, worn bushings and bent hangers at each inspection, and re-check the U-bolt torque after the first few drives. Bushing replacement is a good time to check the axle pivots and brakes for wear.
