Overview

Rotor wear and replacement
Rotors are wear parts. Over time the pad surface can thin, the face can warp or score, and the rotor may no longer give a flat, true contact area for the pads. Replacing a worn rotor restores that surface and helps the brakes respond as they should. Rotors that are not replaced in time can damage the pads and lengthen stopping distances.
When the rotor is off, inspect the caliper, brake hoses and wheel bearing for play. A new rotor can only perform as well as the parts it runs against. Clean the hub face and remove any rust before mounting, and tighten the wheel nuts evenly, following the service manual’s sequence.
