Key features
- Semi-metallic shoes with post cured secondary
- Precision cam ground for a snug fit
- Black coating over new steel against rust
- Formulated without asbestos or copper
- Chamfered for noise free stops
- Covers two wheels per set
Dakota parking brake checks
On a Dakota, the parking brake shoes sit inside the rear drums and work only when the lever or pedal is applied. They are often overlooked because they see light use, yet they can seize from rust or a stuck adjuster during long periods without driving. Before fitting, pull the drum and clean the backing plate, then check that the parking brake cable moves freely from the lever to both rear wheels.
Matched shoes on both sides keep the parking brake holding evenly on a grade. When the set is changed, adjust the shoes so they just touch the drum without dragging, and recheck after a short drive. Keep the adjuster threads clean and lightly greased, and avoid getting grease on the friction surface.
- Cable that sticks at the equalizer
- Adjuster that will not turn
- Shoes wearing unevenly from side to side
