Description

Overview

The Power Stop Autospecialty B701 is a rear parking brake shoe set for the 1993–1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ), 2003–2007 Liberty (KJ), 2004–2006 Wrangler (LJ), 1995–2001 Ford Explorer and several other vehicles. Power Stop sells it as a set for two wheels.

Power Stop says Autospecialty shoes are engineered for professional installers: semi-metallic, post cured for more brake power and shorter break-in time, and precision arc ground to match the drum.

Key features

  • Semi-metallic shoes, secondary post cured for fast break-in
  • Precision cam ground for exact fitment
  • Made from 100% new steel, black coated to resist rust
  • 100% asbestos and copper free formulas
  • Chamfers to assure noise free braking
  • Set covers two wheels

Parking brake shoe care

A parking brake shoe is a rear drum-type brake that holds the vehicle when the lever or pedal is set. It works lightly most of the time, so the lining can look fine while the adjuster and springs wear out. When replacing the set, inspect the cable, the hold-down pins and the adjuster screw, and make sure all moving parts turn freely before the drum goes back on.

Because the B701 is sold as a set for two wheels, both sides are normally changed together. Mismatched shoes can make the parking brake grab on one side or fail to hold on a slope. Clean the backing plate, apply a thin layer of high-temperature grease only to the pivot points, and keep grease away from the friction surface.

  • Adjuster that does not turn freely
  • Cable that sticks or stretches
  • Lining worn near the rivets

Questions & Answers

What does the Power Stop B701 fit?

It fits the 1993–1998 Grand Cherokee (ZJ), 2003–2007 Liberty (KJ), 2004–2006 Wrangler (LJ), 2003–2006 Wrangler (TJ), 1995–2001 Ford Explorer and 1997–2001 Mercury Mountaineer, among other vehicles.

Does the B701 contain asbestos or copper?

No. The shoes are 100% asbestos free and use copper free formulas. The semi-metallic compound is post cured for more brake power and a shorter break-in.

How many wheels does one B701 set cover?

One B701 set covers two wheels, at the rear. Power Stop sells it as a set for two wheels, so a vehicle with a rear parking brake on each side uses one set.

What coating does the B701 have?

The shoes are made from 100% new steel with a black coating to resist rust. Power Stop also says they are precision cam ground for exact fitment to the drum.

Should both rear parking brake shoes be replaced together?

Yes, in most cases. Parking brake shoes wear as a pair, and mismatched linings can change how the brake engages. Inspect the adjuster, springs and drum on both sides, then replace the shoes together so the parking brake holds evenly.
