Overview
The Autospecialty B514 is a rear drum brake shoe set for a long run of General Motors small trucks and SUVs, including the 1982–2003 Chevrolet S10, the 1991–2003 GMC Sonoma, the 1983–1997 GMC Jimmy and the 1995–1997 Chevrolet Blazer.
The shoes use a semi-metallic compound that is post-cured for stronger braking and quicker break-in. They are built for installers who expect consistent results on each job.

Before you install
General Motors small trucks and SUVs often share drum brake hardware, but the shoe size and hold-down arrangement still need checking against the vehicle in hand. Look at the old shoes before removing them, noting which shoe sits leading and which trails, and photograph the spring arrangement. Matching the old layout makes reassembly straightforward and helps the new shoes seat correctly.
Shoes that are post-cured and arc ground settle in faster than uncured linings, but they still need a gentle break-in. Avoid aggressive stops during the first miles on new shoes, and let the brakes cool between hard stops on steep grades. Inspect the drum for scoring when the shoes are changed, since a rough drum can make a new set feel grabby or noisy.
- Clean the backing plate and springs before reassembly
- Confirm the adjuster turns freely in both directions
- Tighten the wheel nuts in a star pattern
- Recheck the pedal after the first short drive

Installation notes
The hardware comes with the shoes, so no separate kit is needed for a standard rear brake job. Inspect the drums before fitting new shoes, since the shoes are arc ground to the drum, and bed them in gently.
