- Limited five year warranty from Omix-ADA
Restoring CJ steering
Many CJ owners restore steering in stages, and a tie rod assembly with its tube is often replaced along with the rest of the linkage. Old tubes can bend, and worn ends can leave slop in the steering that makes the vehicle wander at speed. Clean the mating surfaces and compare the new assembly with the old one before the old part comes off.
Because CJ steering was built around original geometry, a like-for-like part helps keep the wheels tracking as intended. Work with the vehicle supported on stands rather than a jack alone, and recheck the steering after the first short drive. Keep the old part until the new one is confirmed, so the two can be compared.
- Compare the tube and ends with the old part
- Check the steering box and pitman arm for wear
- Tighten all connections and recheck after a short drive
