Description

Overview

The Omix-ADA 16726.11 is a replacement brake shoe set sold per axle, for the front or rear of early Jeep and Willys vehicles from 1941 to 1964, including the Gladiator, Jeep Truck, Utility Wagon, F-134, FC150 and FC170.

Omix-ADA lists 23 vehicle entries for the set and describes its parts as direct OE replacements built to the original specifications. No drum size is stated, so the brake size should be checked against the vehicle.

Key features

  • Replacement brake shoe set, one set per axle
  • Front or rear
  • Fits 1941–1964 Jeep and Willys vehicles
  • Direct-fit replacement design
  • Backed by a limited five year warranty from Omix-ADA.

Before fitting new shoes

Drum brake shoes wear as the friction lining thins, and worn shoes reduce stopping force and can leave the pedal feeling soft. When an axle is opened up, look at the drum surface for scoring or a glazed ring, and check the wheel cylinders for leaks, since new shoes will not stop well against a damaged drum or a leaking cylinder.

Hardware deserves attention too. Return springs, hold-down pins and the self-adjuster should be inspected, and any worn or stretched spring is worth replacing at the same time. Shoes are sold as a set per axle, so both sides of that axle should be done together to keep braking even.

  • Inspect the drum for scoring or out-of-round wear
  • Check wheel cylinders for leaks
  • Replace worn return springs and hold-down hardware
  • Lubricate the shoe contact points on the backing plate

Questions & Answers

How much does the Omix-ADA 16726.11 cover?

It is a replacement brake shoe set per axle, so one set covers one axle, at the front or the rear.

Does the 16726.11 fit a Jeep Gladiator?

Yes, the 1962–1964 Gladiator is covered, along with the 1963–1964 FC150, FC170 and J-series trucks, so an early Gladiator from those years fits.

Does the 16726.11 fit a CJ5?

No. The CJ5 is not in Omix-ADA's list for this brake shoe set, which covers early Jeep trucks, wagons and utility models from 1941 to 1964.

Can I replace only one shoe on an axle?

It is best to replace the shoes on both sides of an axle together. Uneven lining thickness can pull the vehicle to one side under braking. The shoe set is sold per axle, so it covers both wheels on that axle.
