Floor repair preparation
Floor pans are exposed to water, road salt and debris from below, so rust often starts in the seams and low corners. Before cutting, press on the surrounding floor and check the seat belt anchor points and body mounts. Cut out only the rusted section, leaving sound metal for the replacement to weld to.
Fitting a floor section needs careful alignment. Set the new pan in place, check it against the body lines and seat mounts, and tack it in several spots before finishing. Grind the joint clean, apply seam sealer on the top side, and use a rust-inhibiting coating on bare metal underneath. Keep grinding dust away from fuel lines and wiring.
