Overview
The Dana Spicer 46470 is a single inner axle seal for the front Dana 30 axle. It fits the 1997-2005 Jeep Wrangler TJ and seals the axle housing to the axle shaft to help keep gear oil in the axle tubes.
Front axle rebuilds often overlook this seal, so replace it alongside the other seals. The axle’s build year and type matter as much as the vehicle name, and standard Dana 30 axles from 1986 and earlier also use this seal.

Rebuild checks
Inner seals on a front axle often wear quietly, and gear oil leaks at the housing edge are easy to miss until the axle runs low. When the axle is open, look at the bearing area and the axle shaft surface for scoring, since a damaged surface can cause a new seal to leak.
Clean the seal bore and check for rust or burrs before pressing the new seal in. Use the correct installation tool so the seal sits square, and fill the axle to the correct level after the job.
Axles built to earlier standards can differ in shaft and housing details, so measure the seal bore before buying if the axle is an older Dana 30. Replacing both inner seals at the same time is a common approach during a rebuild.
